When Craig and Jane first embarked on their cottage renovation, they didn’t think it would encompass every room of their space. The couple, who recently retired from their respective jobs, simply wanted their cottage to accommodate more guests.
“We just wanted to add two more bedrooms,” says Craig. “But the renovation quickly grew to include our kitchen and great room.”
One of their main goals was to let more light into the cottage, which had previously felt too dark. The renovation achieved that goal: the cottage is now open, bright, and inviting. The only thing left to do was find the right window treatments to match the cottage’s new atmosphere.
Luckily, the pair didn’t have to look far.
“Our builder suggested we contact Ashley West, the owner of Window Quilt Muskoka – a custom window treatment supplier in Huntsville,” says Jane. “And we’re really glad we did.”
The knowledgeable Window Quilt team has been providing custom window covering solutions for Muskoka builders, cottagers, and residents for over 30 years.
“We’re here to help, regardless of your needs, style or budget,” says Ashley. “From initial consultation through to installation and servicing, no job is too big or too small.”
Window treatments have evolved in recent years, as innovative cordless operating systems have entered the market to comply with Corded Window Coverings Regulations.
Before meeting with Ashley for their initial consultation, the pair didn’t have a particular type of window covering in mind. But they did have a list of required functions and concerns.
As light sleepers, the pair needed a shade that would block out all light. They wanted privacy in the bathrooms, and a thin, light shade that would keep the kitchen and living room cool while allowing them to enjoy the view.
Most of all, the pair wanted the treatments to be minimal enough that they wouldn’t take away from the beauty of their latest renovations. “We wanted the space to still feel light and bright, and for the blinds to almost disappear when they weren’t in use,” says Craig.
While the list appeared steep, Ashley recommended stylish, minimalist roller shades within budget and customized to each room of the cottage: cordless privacy shades for the bathrooms, cordless blackout shades in each of the bedrooms, and automated sunscreen shades for the kitchen and great room.
Sunscreen roller shades are a timeless, ever-popular selection for clients who want to enjoy their views while reducing heat, glare and UV damage.
Best of all, each of their 24 windows was outfitted precisely, even in the kitchen, where the windows form a 90-degree corner, creating what could have been an installation conundrum.
“They measured each window and crafted a solution that flowed perfectly,” says Jane. “We are so impressed.”
