In the world of saunas, Wellhouse Luxury Saunas has set itself apart.
“There’s nothing like them in the world: that’s our appeal,” says co-founder Bliss Baker. “They are pure luxury.”
Most saunas have a rustic design – whether barrel-shaped or square – and are built from a kit. “We wanted a sauna that was much more elegant. It needed to be a focal point – a sculpture by the lake,” says co-founder Meredith Pierce.
However, she quickly realized that impeccably designed saunas that are beautifully finished and engineered did not exist. So she channelled her 30 years of interior design experience into creating her own… and Wellhouse was born.
But there’s more to these gorgeous saunas than good looks. Exhaustive studies show that using a sauna two to three times per week can lower your risk of cardiac-related death by 24 percent.
“It’s true. And using the sauna four to seven times per week will lower your risk by 40 percent,” says Bliss.
There’s science behind these statistics. Heat soaking activates Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs). HSPs trigger the body’s internal repair systems, reducing inflammation. Heat soaking improves cardiovascular fitness, heart rate variability, endorphin production, and sleep quality, while supporting insulin sensitivity, regulating blood sugar and blood pressure, and reducing stress hormones.
“We have linked many of these studies on our website so you can see the research for yourself,” says Meredith.
Every Wellhouse is exquisitely crafted from the highest quality materials. The exteriors are clad in aluminum or shou sugi ban-style wood, and the interiors are finished with handcrafted and hand-sanded thermally modified wood.
“The wood is beautiful, smooth and won’t crack or splinter with age,” she explains. “It smells great too.”
Unlike most saunas, each Wellhouse is also equipped with an unrivalled mechanical ventilation system that circulates the air five times per hour, bringing in the fresh oxygen necessary to leave you feeling invigorated and refreshed, not tired and groggy.
They offer four models: the SugarCube, PepperCube, ShadowCube and IceCube – a stunning mirrored design. “We customize and craft each Wellhouse design from our menu of finishes.”
While Wellhouse saunas are built here in Ontario, the brand has caught the attention of architects and designers as far as The Hamptons and Palm Beach, where they now have partners.
These aren’t sauna kits: they come fully assembled. Wellhouse offers white glove delivery, bringing your sauna to your property, whether it’s accessible by road or boat. “We’ve delivered Wellhouses by barge, and crane,” says Bliss. “No location is out of reach.”
