For Meredith Pierce and Bliss Baker, co-founders of Wellhouse Luxury Saunas, the sauna has always been a pinnacle part of their wellness ritual – especially at the cottage.
“The cottage is where we come to unwind, and the sauna is a natural part of that,” says Bliss. However, finding the perfect sauna for their most recent cottage wasn’t easy.
Most saunas have a rustic design – whether barrel-shaped or square – and are built from a kit. While this rustic DIY style may work for some cottages, Meredith wanted something considerably more elegant. She was looking for a focal point; a simple, timeless design with materials and details comparable to their interior finishes.
Unable to find what she was looking for, she decided to start a company to build it. Wellhouse Luxury Saunas was born.
Meet Wellhouse
As an interior designer for the past three decades, Meredith has always had a passion for creating beautiful surroundings; places to rest, relax and regenerate. Luxury saunas are a natural extension of that.
Her classic, contemporary designs are exquisitely crafted from the highest quality materials and finishes. The exteriors are clad in colourfast, rust-proof aluminum; the interiors are finished with handcrafted and hand-sanded thermally modified wood. “The wood is beautiful, smooth and won’t crack or splinter with age,” she explains.
There are four models to choose from: the SugarCube, PepperCube, ShadowCube, and the IceCube, a stunning mirrored cube that reflects its surroundings. Select the model and size you want and then personalize the interior finishes from their menu of top-quality options.
They’re equipped with mechanical ventilation systems, an element that transforms the sauna experience.
“Many saunas lack the engineering required to maximize your wellness,” says Bliss. Unventilated or poorly ventilated saunas can leave you feeling tired and lethargic after use. Mechanically ventilated saunas will circulate the air five times per hour, bringing in the fresh oxygen necessary to leave you feeling invigorated and refreshed.
A good sauna session provides more than relaxation. It’s proven to mimic moderate aerobic exercise by elevating your heart rate, increasing blood circulation, easing muscle aches, improving sleep quality, and even combating depression. Studies have also shown regular sauna use lowers your risk of having a cardiovascular event, reduces inflammation and helps combat chronic illnesses like dementia and Alzheimer’s by increasing blood flow to the brain.
