You may have a water treatment system, but is it doing its job? Regular maintenance is vital to keeping your water clean and safe.
Filters and UV bulbs are the most common items needing replacing, but doing a full system check after the busy summer season is a good idea as well, explains Eric Dube of Water Depot.
Often that means Eric and his team find themselves in crawl spaces, under decks, in dank basements, or other locations that require a professional touch.
“It can be a dirty job keeping our clients’ water clean, but we’re happy to do it,” says Eric. He and Nicole Blanchet own Water Depot locations in Bracebridge, Barrie, Parry Sound and Wasaga Beach.
There are several factors that affect where the water treatment system is placed, not the least of which is where the water line is coming into the building.
“We install our treatment systems in the best location to provide potable water to the home or cottage,” says Eric. “Sometimes those locations are in basements, sometimes those locations are in other areas – even on the exterior of the building.”

The Water Depot team is adept at installing and maintaining their own water treatment systems, as well as servicing those that were previously installed.
To keep things moving smoothly and clean water flowing through your taps, Eric recommends setting up a preventive maintenance schedule.
They have a selection of maintenance packages that will provide in-home service and keep track of when bulbs and filters need replacing, so you don’t need to. It’s like becoming part of their family, with Eric and his team there every step of the way.
“We build great relationships with all of our clients,” says Eric. “It’s not just about business, it’s about the people and taking care of their needs.”
The right fit
One way they build these strong relationships is by finding the right system to fit each client’s needs. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to water treatment and filter systems.
One issue that often comes up is “yellow ice” or “yellow water.” Eric explains that it is usually caused by tannins – literally decomposed organic materials – and sediments from lake beds. A tannin filter can help provide clear, safe water.
Other concerns are microorganisms and pathogens that can be treated through UV light filters, while other equipment is needed to filter iron-rich water.
The team at Water Depot can ensure you have all the equipment needed, and just as importantly that it’s installed in the right sequence.
“There is also a process that has to occur in order – you don’t want the UV light filter coming before the tannin filter or it could cause issues,” says Eric. “Our team ensures the job is done right.”
