Go ahead and do absolutely nothing

Do-Nothing Vacations or “Slowcations” are on the rise as more travellers ditch ambitious vacation checklists in favour of tech-free, unstructured rest.

A sharp contrast to our often-dizzying schedules filled with the buzz of non-stop media notifications, this trend allows vacationers to set commitments aside, put their phones on mute and simply unwind.

Slowcations have their benefits, says Krista Long, Marketing and Sales Manager of Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain. “We all need to take a break at times to slow down and to focus on our wellness. This trend allows you to enjoy time away without feeling guilty for going offline.”

While doing nothing may be of the moment, Krista notes that Scandinave Blue Mountain has been helping visitors relax and unwind since 2006.

Nestled in a serene 25-acre parcel close to the shores of Georgian Bay, this iconic thermal spa is a guilt-free opportunity to disconnect from technology and commitments and reconnect with our health in a peaceful environment nestled in nature.

“One of our core pillars is the ‘digital disconnect,’” says Krista. “Here, silence is golden and phones are encouraged to be left in the lockers.”

Not only does disconnecting allow you to be more present, but it can also lower your stress levels, relax you, and let you tune into how your body feels.

And, surrounded by natural beauty, as you disconnect from your schedule and the pings of your cell notifications, you’re able to reconnect with your surroundings.

“Spending time in nature shouldn’t be strenuous. Here, it’s the opposite.”

Guests are encouraged to walk Scandinave’s private Forest Bathing trail during their spa visit. The short walk is a complimentary, self-guided way to enhance your spa experience.

While Scandinave is designed to be enjoyed at your own pace, the spa has recently added a Guided Thermal Journey experience to its offerings as an opportunity for guests to get the most out of their thermal therapy experience under the guidance of a certified guide.

“Begin your spa day cycling through hot, cold and relaxation installations with a certified Sherpa Cold Water and Breath Guide who will share the virtues of embracing extreme temperatures in a healthy way,” says Krista.

The exclusive 45-minute journey not only helps you learn more about the benefits of thermal therapy, but they also help you get the most out of your visit and learn techniques that can be used at home to enhance your wellness routine and conquer everyday stresses.

“Take care of yourself, and take time to rest. We’re here to help you get away, whether for a slowcation or a mid-week day away from your routine.”
