Luxury log bunkies increase living space

Whether you’re anticipating a summer filled with visits from friends and family, or a noisy work-from-home environment thanks to your kids’ summer holidays, there are many reasons to consider adding square footage to your space this summer with a bunkie.

A bunkie doesn’t just add space, it gives you the separation you need to work, relax or host guests. They can offer serenity, added guest quarters, or a workspace free from distractions.

The classic old-school bunkie was a shed-like structure, but Joel Doherty, President and CEO of Pluspuu Canada, is working to make these small dwellings much more luxurious.

“The + Space offers an esthetically-pleasing, architecturally on trend, modern Scandinavian bunkie design,” says Joel. “With our innovative prefabricated design, each + Space bunkie goes up quickly and seals out the weather, making it enjoyable to use year-round.”

Speed
The bunkie is delivered in three stages: exterior framing, interior insulation and walls, and interior finishes. Buyers can choose between several gorgeous turn-key models, or work with a Pluspuu architect to make minor interior layout edits to satisfy their specific needs.

Each bunkie is then hand-built on-site, by qualified, vetted, and trained local contractors in as little as four to six weeks – a fraction of the traditional home building timeline.

“We have teams across Canada, and are looking to train more,” says Joel. “If you have a contractor in mind for your project, we will train them.”

Log innovation
The bunkies are built with proprietary non-settling log engineering of white pine, delivering the look, feel and benefits of log home living, without the need for chinking or ongoing maintenance.

“There’s no need to fear log builds,” says Joel. “You can get the best of both worlds: a traditional look and a very advanced design that has an insulation R-value well above code.”

It adds up to a homey, cottagey, outdoor feeling, but with advanced engineering.

Space for all
Joel says it’s fascinating to see the creative ways that people come up with to use the space.

“A bunkie is perfect for yoga, meditation, or physical workouts,” he says. “It can be a creative space – for painting, music, dance or writing.”

“Or host family and friends, giving them their own private space while they stay – our models sleep up to six. They’re designed to complement a beautiful property and offer added space for others to enjoy it with you.”
