OneTek Pest Solutions

Protect your family from flying and crawling pests of all kinds

Summer is here and cottage season is in full swing! Unfortunately, that also signals the high point for those pesky fliers who take a bite or a sip from people just trying to enjoy the outdoors.

Most active from June through August, mosquitoes are so bad in some parts of Muskoka that people find it nearly impossible to be outside.

There is a solution to this problem, explains Nathan Kaye, co-owner of OneTek Pest Solutions.

“Getting regular mosquito control treatments through the spring and summer months will keep populations at bay in and around your property,” he says. “And it’s not too late to start now to enjoy the rest of your summer.”

With mosquitoes being most active when the temperature is cooler, often in the evening and at night, OneTek treats targeted areas where mosquitoes hide during the day from the hot sun.

Nathan, who has over 20 years experience in the pest control business, recommends a monthly treatment plan to ensure the best results.

Carpenter ants
The experts explain that different pests are active at different times of year. Midsummer is the time to start watching for wasps and hornets, whose hidden nests are approaching their largest size of the year.

As well, says Nathan, if there is a carpenter ant colony in your home, July is the time you’ll find out about it: their nests are well-established by then, and they are beginning to expand their colony. Small piles of sawdust or falling debris, or chewing sounds in the walls and ceiling, are signs that carpenter ants are building a home inside yours.

“Carpenter ants could be anywhere in your home or cottage. Other kinds of ants are often found in the kitchen,” says Nathan. “It’s the best source for food and water.”

Maintenance program
It’s essential to have a regularly scheduled pest maintenance program to handle pests before they become a problem, says Nathan’s business partner Bryan Carrigan. They will schedule visits three to nine times a year – depending on what pest control is needed – and keep a watchful eye for other potentially harmful situations.

They provide control services for all insects, rodents and other pests to Simcoe, Muskoka and the surrounding areas.

“We’ll shield you from unwanted invaders, so your only worries are how to best enjoy your home or cottage.”

The real estate market is normalizing, and despite what some panicky naysayers may think, the idea that cottage prices will be plummeting is farfetched.
