Most of the time when people think of screens for their home or cottage, it’s to keep pests out while letting in the warm summer breezes.
But simply keeping out insects is just the tip of the iceberg. There is a wide range of screens available, each with its own use, explains Kevin Cardwell, owner of Muskokify.
Motorized Interior Shades, Privacy, UV protection and Vinyl screens all add another layer to a traditional insect screen while keeping out the elements.
One option that’s particularly popular in Muskoka is UV screens, especially for boathouses and boat ports. They keep the sun’s rays off your watercraft while allowing airflow throughout the boathouse or port.
“No one wants the back or side of their fibreglass or wooden boat to prematurely fade while it’s parked in a boathouse,” says Kevin.
UV screens also provide interior shading while helping keep your home or cottage cooler, and are great for protecting valuables from the intense rays which can cause fading.
“In some cases, my clients have only put UV screens on one side of their building,” says Kevin. “In these cases, the screen is simply there to keep out the afternoon sun.”
Kevin says vinyl screens have become more popular in recent years due to their versatility and durability. Made with marine grade vinyl and clear mylar windows, the vinyl screens will keep out pollen, rain, wind and snow while providing a comfortable living area.
“Our vinyl screens offer protection from the elements and UV rays while allowing for great views,” says Kevin. “Coupling them with an insect screen allows you to either prevent or allow gentle breezes through your porch or Muskoka room, or have your sitting area blocked off from direct wind while letting the air flow from the other side of the area.”
When someone wants to add a touch of privacy to their outdoor living area, Kevin recommends a privacy screen. Woven with a heavier mesh and using premium screen material, these screens can also be combined with other options to allow the owner to choose what type of outdoor experience they want.
Muskokify has been installing motorized and manual screens in Muskoka rooms, patios, gazebos and porches across the region for over 10 years. Kevin, a lifelong Muskoka cottager and experienced contractor, finds out what his clients want or need, then makes sure the installation is done right.
“Whatever your needs are, we have the screen to fit,” says Kevin. “We’ll help you make the right choice to fit your lifestyle.”
