Apart from the glint of reflecting sun here and there, the glass railings being photographed were nearly invisible. The photographer eventually managed to find an angle where the camera could see the railings, but his challenge underscored why frameless glass railings have become so popular: they really do give the cleanest and clearest views of any railings.
In fact, last year Kevin Cardwell and his team at Muskokify installed more frameless glass railings than any other product.
“They give you the full view from your home, cottage or boathouse deck,” says Kevin. “There are no frames obstructing any views. It’s even better with side-mount spigots, because all the hardware is hidden.”
Glass railings will also help keep the deck more comfortable, particularly when it’s windy or on cooler spring or fall days.
“They have the form and function you’re looking for in a railing,” explains Kevin. “While framless glass railings with the side-mount spigots are the most popular, the spigots can also be mounted on the deck surface – if that’s the best option for your outdoor living space.”
Kevin notes that on decks with waterproof membranes, he recommends mounting the railings on the fascia rather than fastening through the deck. Not only does it require less hardware, but it also won’t damage the integrity of the membrane.

Many options
Glass railings are super stylish, but it’s important to keep in mind that the views go both ways. If a little more privacy is desired, Kevin says, consider having a few of the panes etched or sandblasted.
Or you can have all or some of the sections completed with tinted glass for privacy, which gives a touch of contemporary style to cottages and boathouses.
Though frameless glass railings are trending, there are those who prefer to have glass railings with frames. In these situations, the railings can be mounted on half or full posts.
Others prefer traditional railings styles with solid frames and pickets. These can be customized to match the décor of the home, cottage, or boathouse.
“No matter what your preferences are, we can help find the right railings to fit,” says Kevin. “We’re here to help you maximize your outdoor living space experience.”
