Railings have come a long way since the early days of wood and aluminum pickets that were more like a fence than something stylish and view-enhancing.
Today’s glass railings enhance the outdoor experience while providing many functional attributes. But glass is just the beginning: within the glass realm there is a world of design options, explains Kevin Cardwell of Muskokify.
“We can customize your glass railings to fit your preferences,” he says. “Whether it’s a frameless option, half-frames or even full frames that can be installed on your deck or boathouse patio.”
Some people love the symmetrical aesthetic that a framed glass railing provides, and they remain a popular choice. Half-frames and frameless glass railings, meanwhile, are becoming increasingly popular as homeowners and cottagers lean into a style that provides an unobstructed view.
Anyone with a glass railing will appreciate the strength and durability of the half-inch tempered glass, which is the same as is used in hockey arenas.
When going frameless, it can be easy to forget the frameless glass railings are even there (though the occasional glint gives it away).
The marine-grade stainless steel spigots can be surface mounted, fascia mounted, or side mounted to suit the requirements of the customer. Kevin says they can also mix and match spigots for a different look and style.
No matter which style is chosen, the railings will continue to provide the desired functionality: glass railings are great at keeping the wind down, while increasing warmth by a couple of degrees on the deck when those sunny but cooler days occur.
Buyer beware
As with many things, it pays to invest in quality. Kevin has heard from several disgruntled cottagers who purchased glass railings from an out-of-town company using similar looking but cheap components which are not holding up to Ontario’s weather: failing paint finishes and materials have become issues.
He warns people to be careful when shopping for anything. Muskokify is thorough when choosing which products to sell and install – they have to be tested to withstand the harshest weather cottage country has to offer.
“It’s all about the quality of the product,” says Kevin, a lifelong cottager himself. “We have spent nearly two decades installing high-end products that we spend countless hours researching to ensure they meet the needs of our customers.”
Choosing a high-end railing and having it installed by experienced professionals is a huge step towards enhancing your outdoor living experience.
