Doors have evolved and changed greatly over the years. To keep up with the style and size changes, screen manufacturers have also continued to adapt.
From single units to double French entrances to oversized doors that lift or slide into place, the design and range of the openings is as varied as the cottages and homes themselves.
When it comes to screening a large opening, Tom Croden of Muskoka Screens explains that previously the only option was power screens that dropped down from the ceiling. While these are fantastic in most applications, there are now other options.
“Wizard Screens has come up with a manual screen that will span wide openings side-to-side, enabling the owner to open the screen manually, walk out and close it behind without waiting for the power screen to open and close,” he says. “The mesh is retained top and bottom to ensure a complete seal from bugs, as well as prevent chipmunks and mice from entering.”
A typical side-to-side retractable screen consists of two screens that come together in the middle. This can cause an issue as cats and small dogs can sometimes figure out how to escape. In addition, the middle meeting point can disrupt the view to the outdoors.
Tom says this new product from Wizard Screens has solved these issues. The manual screen will span openings as wide as 28 feet.
They are also a great option for double French doors, notes Tom.
“Now we can use one screen that spans across the entire opening, without a middle bar to impair your view,” he says. “The mesh is retained top and bottom with a small zipper so your pets can’t get out and critters can’t get in. It’s all operated with a sturdy pull bar that will stop where you want it with the use of a brake.”
It’s yet another advancement in screen technology that can increase your enjoyment of your home or cottage.
