Design trends in homes and cottages are driving a growing demand for contemporary, modern window and door styles.
Influenced by commercial and industrial architecture, the trending styles have led Lakeland Windows and Doors to take their offerings to the next level and add their own line of Lakeland Aluminum to the mix.
“Our own branded products are a European aluminum system out of Greece. They’re perfect for the more modern and contemporary look the market is demanding these days,” says Ken Patterson, owner of Lakeland Windows and Doors.
“People generally go into aluminum because they want a contemporary or modern look with cleaner lines.” But there is also a functional aspect to the material choice: it has the strength needed to craft oversized units, including two-panel doors up to 20 feet wide and 10 feet high.
“That’s one of the key attributes of aluminum,” says Ken. “Structurally it’s stronger and more durable and can handle the oversized windows and doors better than more traditional materials.”
The aluminum frames aren’t just strong, they’re also lightweight, resistant to environmental pressures, energy efficient, low-maintenance, and fire resistant. Lakeland’s aluminum line also strikes a perfect balance between a luxurious look and high-end performance while remaining more budget-friendly than many other options on the market.
For those wanting the strength and durability of aluminum with the feel and character of wood inside their home, Lakeland Windows and Doors has partnered with Sierra Pacific to offer aluminum-clad wood windows and doors.
The partnership is a great alignment of expertise and experience: Lakeland has been in business for more than 40 years, while California-based Sierra Pacific has been manufacturing quality windows and doors for over 70 years.
Together they can offer an incredible array of contemporary products, including pivot doors, lift and slide doors, multi-slides, bi-folds and much more.
“We want to offer an all-aluminum option and a clad wood option to help meet the wants, needs and budgets of the community,” says Ken. “People can come and make fully informed decisions by seeing and feeling the difference.”
The choice between all-aluminum and clad wood is partly a matter of personal aesthetic, Ken explains. Clad wood lets people enjoy the look and feel of wood on the interior of their home, with the durability and strength of aluminum on the exterior.
“The exteriors of the clad wood windows and patio doors are fully encased in heavy-duty, extruded aluminum that’s twice as thick as roll-form cladding.” That means double the protection from harsh weather conditions like hailstorms and heavy snowfalls. The aluminum is powder-coated for increased surface hardness, scratch resistance and color retention.
The wood is treated with a patented organic preservative that protects against insects and moisture. And because the windows and doors are made by Sierra Pacific, every one features energy efficient glass and superb insulation.
New contemporary showroom
To house all these amazing contemporary windows and doors, Lakeland Windows and Doors is adding a new showroom and warehouse on Highway 38 in Bala – around the corner from their current showroom.
“The new showroom opens in the fall for viewing. The full line of aluminum and clad wood products will be displayed there,” says Ken. “We’ll still have our original location for the more traditional design styles.”
Ken and his team are setting up displays which showcase aluminum and clad wood options side by side, allowing homeowners and cottagers – and their architects and contractors – to experience the full feel of each product.
“You can come see the difference in the patinas, the feel of the wood compared to the aluminum, and see what suits you best. It’s an excellent way to give the client the scope of what’s available in contemporary and modern offerings,” says Ken. “Then we can help them make the best choice based on their needs, their wants, and their budgets.”
