Protect yourself and repair sun damage

While our skin is strong, every day it’s fighting an unseen battle against UV rays, humidity, air pollution, and more.

“The immune system is limited by oxidative stress and that uncontrolled oxidative stress can accelerate the aging process,” says Kelsey Hancock, Medical Aesthetician and Certified Laser Technician at Face First Medical Aesthetics and Wellness. Oxidative stress, she notes, occurs when free radicals caused by the sun’s rays, air pollution and more overwhelm the skin’s defences, damaging the cells.

Left unmanaged, stress can cause inflammation, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin texture and premature aging – effects that none of us want to consider as we enjoy the great outdoors this summer.

Thankfully, our skin doesn’t have to depend on its own defences.

“We offer a wide range of medical grade skin care products, regimens, and programs to target your specific skin concerns, and protect it with medical grade sunscreens that offer the most comprehensive UV protection,” says Face First’s medical director and owner, Nurse Practitioner Emily Greb.

If your skin already is showing signs of hyperpigmentation, a dull or uneven complexion, or premature aging, you’re not alone.

“None of us, regardless of our genes or level of melanin, are immune to oxidative stress,” says Emily. The key to keeping your skin healthy, especially in the summer months, is with summer-safe skincare treatments.

“Chemical peels, microneedling, Celluma Light Therapy, and medical facials are all great ways to reduce the effects of oxidative stress, especially in the summer when not all treatments are advisable,” says Kelsey.

Medical facials, especially those using the BellaMD+, Face First’s latest skincare treatment option, are perfect for treating dull, sensitive or acne-prone skin. A summer-safe alternative to IPL lasers, Kelsey notes that the BellaMD+ treatments are like “facials on steroids.”

The treatment, which requires no downtime, combines diamond microdermabrasion with infused serums, which can be tailored to each patient’s individual skin concerns.

Microdermabrasion, she notes, increases collagen production and cellular renewal, while the serums offer almost immediate results, leaving skin glowing and healthy.

While results can vary by patient, the treatment has been shown to brighten, lighten, and lift the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles after three to six treatments, when completed every two to four weeks.

“Because there’s no downtime with this treatment, it’s great for those who have an important upcoming event, like a wedding or important work event,” says Kelsey.

No one wants to hide from the sun. With the right medical-grade skincare, medical-grade sunscreen and treatments, you and your skin can enjoy the summer stress-free.

“Book your consultation today,” says Emily. “And let us help you look and feel your best.”
