Professional cleaning is about the details

While the view of the lake through the large cottage windows provides the “wow,” the truth is that window cleaning is about more than aesthetics.

Windows and screens are prime locations for dust, grime, fingerprints, cobwebs, insects, and other undesirables, explains Jonathan Barnard, owner of Dreamview Muskoka.

“Having a good professional clean done regularly on your interior and exterior windows and screens keeps these unwanted items from building up,” says Jonathan. “We will also do thorough cleaning of Muskoka room screens, which can get very dirty over time.”

He also advises calling them post-construction – whether it’s a renovation or new build – to remove all the excess dust and dirt that can hide in the corners of your windowpanes.

“Or you could be renting your cottage out to guests and want it to look its best before arrival and after departure,” says Jonathan, who has extensive experience in the business working on high value properties in Muskoka and Toronto.

Over the years, he has developed a detailed process to get the job done right.

It begins with a thorough inspection of the property to determine what equipment is needed and where it can be set up. Then he dusts away all the webs and organic debris surrounding the windows. Finally, the window itself is carefully cleaned.

“We don’t skip ahead or cut corners,” says Jonathan. “We clean each window and screen as if it was our own.”

End of season
With fall on the way, it’s important to schedule an eavestrough cleaning and window touch-up prior to the first snowfall.

Getting the leaves and other fallen debris out helps to avoid clogging, which can cause damage to eaves and other parts of your home or cottage.

Regular maintenance on your eaves helps prevent foundational damage and basement flooding. Blocked eaves that leak in one spot will funnel all the water from your roof into one area next to the foundation.

Meanwhile, it’s always good to have a window touch-up done right before the snow, since exterior cleaning isn’t viable through the winter.

“That end of season cleaning is really important as part of a smart maintenance schedule,” says Jonathan. “Keeping your eavestrough clean and clear helps it stay in good working condition for years to come.”

Book ahead
Whether it’s for special events like weddings and birthday parties, or just part of the regular cleaning schedule, booking your window cleaning dates now allows you to focus on other essential planning.

Simone Barnard is Dreamview Muskoka’s lead for customer service and administration and Jonathan’s spouse. She is already busy planning their fall, winter and 2023 cleaning appointments.

“We definitely recommend getting your cottage or home on our schedule as far in advance as possible,” says Simone. “We’re happy to plan a regular cleaning routine or pencil in specific dates ahead of social events you are hosting.”
